A Brief History of Mar Augusthinose College Ramapuram
Mar Augusthinose College had its inception in 1995 under the management of St. Augustine’s Forane Church, Ramapuram. Ever since its inception, the institution has maintained high academic excellence, commitment to moral values, and single minded devotion to the cause of higher education. The institution had its lean years when, it had only a few courses in its armoury like BBA, B Sc Electronics, BCA and B Com. Now it has grown into a pioneering presence in the self financing stream of higher education with as many as nine batches of diverse courses like BCA (2 batches) B Sc Electronics, B Sc Biotechnology, B B A (2 batches), B Com (2 batches) and Communicative English. The total strength of students has gone up to more than one thousand seven hundred from the meagre 200 in 1995. As many post graduate courses and the newly added P G Course in English Language and Literature add colour and vitality to the academic life of this temple of learning.
We have rich infrastructural facilities as well. Spacious class rooms equipped with modern teaching aids; well furnished computer, electronics and language labs, conference hall and a library of more than 20000 titles are a few of the amenities available at the campus. Add to this the services of an array of dedicated and committed teaching staff the picture is almost complete. Hostel facilities for boys and girls are provided.
The college has been venue for national seminars and exhibitions as well. The story goes back to 1997 when we organized an all India science and technology exhibition, followed by National Seminars in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in the first decade of the present century. The personalities who led the seminars and public gatherings include Hon’ble former President of India H. E. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Hon’ble Defence minister Sri. A. K. Antony, Hon’ble minister for Non Resident Indians Sri. Vayalar Ravi, Finance minister of Kerala Sri. K. M. Mani, Irrigation minister Sri. P. J. Joseph, former Vice-Chancellors of M. G. University Dr. Jancy James and Dr. Cyriac Thomas and Dr. K. S. Radhakrishnan, present Chairman of Kerala Public Service Commission, Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, former Chairman of ISRO; Dr. M. M. Jacob former Governor of Meghalaya, Dr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of Infosys, Prof. V. R. Rajasekharan Pillai, former Chairman of University Grants Commission, Dr. V. A. Joseph, Chairman South Indian Bank Ltd, Dr. P. C. Cyriac, Chairman Federal Bank Ltd; to name only a few.
Mar Augusthinose has been fortunate enough to maintain high academic excellence. As on date, we have secured 56 University Ranks in various subjects. Electronics, Computer Science and MHRM have retained their monopoly down the years. South Indian Bank, Federal Bank, US Technologies and Wipro are a few of the large conglomerates who have visited our campus for their placement requirements.
At present we have more than one thousand seven hundred students and one hundred and five staff members on the rolls. The profile given above is only a broad bird’s eye view of the college and its achievements in the short span of more than a decade. Our mission is to mould the youth entrusted to our care into responsible innovative young men of tomorrow. We aim at changing the chemistry of men into men of vitality, vigour and commitment to their professional values, ethics and integrity. We aim at the stars so that we can at least hit at the tree tops.
Manager Rev. Dr. George Njarakunnel is the manager of the college . He is an academician, distinguished professor of philosophy, a great administrator and public speaker. Formerly he was President of the Pontifical Institute of Philosophy at Mangalapuzha Seminary, Alwaye. Having been professor for 32 years, he counts among his students a cardinal, 15 Bishops and thousands of Priests and Nuns.
Principal Dr. Joseph V. J, a Chartered Accountant, is the Principal of the college . He has been a professor in the Dept. of Commerce ever since the beginning of the college.
Bursar Mr. Shaji Augustine Attupuram , who invited you to the college during a meeting at Mascot Hotel in connection with Dr. M. M. Jacob Sathabhiskeham, is bursar of the college. He started service as secretary of the management committee since 1994.
